ABOUT THE EVENT
Signed, Squealed, Delivered…I’m Yours!
What says “I love you” better than the smiling faces of two of Binder Park Zoo’s finest wild pigs?
This Valentine’s Day surprise your significant other with a Red River Hog adoption package that includes a framed photograph of Harley and Squeaky (our two lovable hogs), a fact sheet with loads of information on red river hogs, a special Valentine’s Day card, your special friend’s name on the adopt board in the Miller Children’s Zoo, and a personalized adoption certificate. This Valentine’s Day special ADOPT is $30.
Currently, the Red River Hogs do not have a public exhibit at Binder Park Zoo. They are residing in a holding area off exhibit, but would like nothing more than to be out in a new home where they can entertain guests! When you purchase this special Valentine’s Day A.D.O.P.T. (Animals Depend On People Too), all of the proceeds will go toward renovating an exhibit space for the Red River Hogs.
“We are calling this campaign ‘Extreme Makeover: Hog Edition,’ says Stacey Lawson, Chief Operating Officer. “Once we raise enough funds to renovate their exhibit, we will get started on building them their new dream home.”
Red River Hogs reside in the forests, savannas, and swamps of western and central Africa. They are more active at night and rest during the day in a huge burrow they excavate themselves in an area that is so thick with vegetation it is almost impenetrable. They are fast runners and interestingly great swimmers. They will often be found wallowing in ponds and streams.
When Harley and Squeaky go on exhibit this summer, they will be the only Red River Hogs exhibited in Michigan.
You can get more information about Extreme Makeover: Hog Edition by visiting Binder Park Zoo’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/binderparkzoo and clicking on “Causes.”
When you purchase an A.D.O.P.T. package, your support goes to help provide 365 days of expert care and countless enrichment activities to help keep the animals healthy and happy. All of Binder Park Zoo’s animals are available for adoption; please call the zoo for more information at 269-979-1351.
